Mornings is an intimate and expansive record that explores memory, love, change, and impermanence. The songs move between hushed introspection, the voice close to the mic, sparse instrumentation, and textured, energetic arrangements. Lyrically, it reflects on the subtle passage of time, fleeting moments of intimacy, nostalgia for the past, and the bittersweet nature of life and relationships. Themes of personal growth, self-discovery, and presence run through the album, often anchored in vivid sensory experiences and small moments of everyday beauty. The record balances melancholy and hope, tension and comfort, longing and joy, ultimately capturing the wonder of simply being alive.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Matthew Halbert-Howen is a multidisciplinary artist—graphic designer, producer, musician—who found his love for music in high school. For years, he channeled that creative energy into other people's work: performing in bands, contributing to projects, and helping bring other artists' visions to life. In 2024, he began to focus on something of his own. What started as raw demos in the Spring became a full album by the Fall—recorded, produced, and mixed in his basement. Along the way he found his own voice as a singer, writer, and performer, while friends contributed to production, photo shoots, instrumentation, and writing. The whole thing is deeply personal and collaborative at the same time.
His music is often a contradiction: intimacy and atmosphere, bass-driven and dreamy in the vein of Tame Impala, grounded, stark lyrics like Big Thief, shifting and layered like Daniel Rossen, electronic snap of Sylvan Esso with the candor of The Postal Service. At times, raw Strokes-like energy and at others, the peaceful calm of Fleet Foxes.
